Free Users: How to download 550MB+
You have to reactivate and renew your passport. You are required to reactivate your FREE passport each time it hits 550MB.
FREE passports renew every two hours. That means even if your passport renews and has 550MB available, you can not use it until you reactivate it. If the file itself is over 550MB, a download manager is required so you can resume and complete the download. You can reactivate a passport by re-visiting the download page where you originally found the link, and entering the CAPTCHA... then hit the resume button in the download manager and it will pick up directly from where it left off. See this thread for more information on how to use a download manager. Also, please note that free users are restricted to 1 download stream and 1 download link at a time. Paid LinkCard users have no limits on how many downloads, how many streams OR file sizes. |

Where on the site are the "free Users" limits described?
I uploaded a ~12MB file and the person I gave the download link to got an over-usage message and to buy a membership. Hank |

Did he follow instructions to reactivate the passport? Is he on a shared IP address with other people who are downloading as free users from the same IP address, for example a proxy maybe? |

"Hit the resume button in the Admin Manager"
I assume the Admin Manger is Flashget. I am looking at the options in Flashget and I don't see a "resume" option. Veersen |

Learn to use your download manager, this isn't a place to provide support for your software!

jdownloader users have described a similarly vexing experience. Files over 1 gig allow 1g every 1.5 hours so plan workstation time accordingly to complete a large download

Man I wish you people could make an exception when less than 1% of the file is past the 550mb limit and 2 hour wait :(

Although I read Deathowl's remark above, I too am not able to download as a free user, although I feel that I know my download software.
Perhaps the problem for me, and apparently some others too, can be solved when I write what I do. Then perhaps someone who knows Megashares can tell what to change in order for FlashGet user like me to download larger-than-550MB-files as a free user. ![]() This is how I download a larger-than-550MB-file (which gets me in trouble): 1. I download by opening the Megashares URL. 2. I click the "Regular Download" button. 3. On the new page I right-click the "Download File" button. 4. I paste this URL into Flashget. 5. The first 550 MB downloads (and stops because Megashares stops at that point). 6. After the waiting period, I enter the original Megashares URL again. 7. I click the "Regular Download" button again. 8. On the new page I right-click the "Download File" button. 9. In Flashget I right-click the original entry (for which the first 550MB have been downloaded), and choos "Properties". 10. I paste the URL (the one I copied from the "Download" button) into Flasget's URL line, and then click "OK". Now, nothing happens. According to the description on this site I should click some "Resume" button. But Flashget does NOT have such a button! - I tried in FlashGet clicking first 'Pause' and then 'Start': no luck. - I tried to click the button on Megashares page: then the whole download starts all over from scratch, eliminating the first 550MB I already had. - I tried waiting for some miracle: it did not happen. ![]() So, although I am not stupid, I cannot download a larger-than-550MB-file as a free user with the instructions as they are given. Is there anybody with enough knowledge to help me here, because I read that I am not the only one. Thanks for anybody knowledgable and friendly enough to spend some time answering my qquestion. ![]()

flashget resume
This is similar to what ADMIN stated above and his link 'See this thread' but maybe a more long winded less technical version and may help ,apologies for responding in wrong thread /place
and now realize the above ADMIN makes my post look way out of place to everyone else but dont know how to delete this post. so anyways this is what i did since charlie333 overlooked the above ADMIN post and link. Assuming youve already started the download with the correct link as per Admin post and similar to the repeat/resume procedure that i mention again below. To resume , you highlight the file you want to resume/download click the play arrow pointing right, thats beside the (+) new button symbol toolbar above the download files ,Yes you already knew it as the Start button. the highlighted file now has green circle with down(load) arrow at beginning showing it has begun resume/download . However you may now realize as i did that it was already trying to download it had just been stopped by Megashare. so to get it to restart or to resume the second 550mb ,the same procedure applies read on ,all As Stated in Above ADMIN post and link For the second 550mb or to resume and heres the critical part go to Megashare site file being download renew the Download Passport again and re-saved the 'new' link address from Megashare Download File box(right click on box) if you waited long enough or you only had a partial download it should say xxxMB left. Now goto download in Flashget (click pause (ll)symbol in flashget) and paste that link address into the file> properties> link address of the download file in Flashget overwriting the previous link that you put in address of the download file.(as per method stated above see ADMIN) Try this after downloading the first part 550mb of total file or when it freezes stops downloading. Then click Resume(click the play arrow) in Flashget and it should then continue with download. I repeated this procedure every time it stopped downloading that was sometimes even before it had finished downloading all of the 550mb part file, limited by Megashare. hope this makes a bit of sense to someone. im was killing time waiting for my next 'download passport' when i saw this post so i ve not tested the result of my resumed 4gb download as im only on 3nd 550mb of downloading 4gb file but it looking good. although if this flashget doesnt work i'll have another go at jdownloader it just came back with 'unknown file size' and 'fatal error' maybe not linked to my browser as i usually paste links in manually to jdownloader........
